Restaurant Review: Rhea's Good Food and Fine Company

Last night I went to Rhea's with a few friends. Now, I know that you are thinking. Rhea's is the epitome of a dive bar, and most of you wouldn't consider touching the place with a ten foot pole. Well in fact this wasn't even the first time I was there. Last year Rhea's was a hole during Queen's Pub Golf, and the place was crawling with drunk, scantily clad undergrads. Let me tell you that last night was slightly different. Anyway, I was drawn by the 35¢ wings and effusive praise from my good friend, and we decided to have a little Groningen Exchange reunion. I had two pints of Canadian and 15 wings (side note: I ordered them hot because Kingston has a problem understanding that hot sauce should in fact be hot. This is pretty much consistent all over town, and although I have been traditionally a 'medium' man, I have to order hot wings here). Price: $17.25. Upon reflection I think they must have overcharged me, because this place is known for having the cheapest beer in town. Anyway, the wings were actually pretty great - I ordered the first ten and liked them so much I sprang for another 5. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect: divey as hell. The clientele was mostly shabby looking, but our group didn't get the death stares that I expected us to get. The service was great, and beer refills came very quickly. Anyway, while I would never look to spend any time just 'hanging out' here (that would be depressing as hell), I would definitely come back for a Thursday night wing dinner.

Rating: 7/10
