“Just the other day you saw a watch owned by Albert Einstein here on Hodinkee, today you’re about to see a watch owned by the Einstein of modern hip-hop, the Notorious BIG.  Yes Biggie Smalls himself, the man who helped form east coast hip-hop into what it is today wore a diamond-studded watch, and I bet you can all guess what kind….no not a Movado.

Yes, a Rolex.

This watch is an early 90’s Rolex Datejust with diamonds on the bezel and face, but what appears to be an original Rolex two-toned jubilee bracelet.  This watch is being auctioned off here in New York by art house Philips de Pury & Co.  The auction is the first of its kind and is titled “Hip Hop’s Crown Jewels”.  It will also feature some pretty legendary pieces of metal from the likes of some nefarious characters including 50 Cent, Tupac, P.Diddy, and of course Biz Markie.

We don’t know much about this watch, as there is very little information on it on the auction website or really anywhere on the web.  We don’t have an estimate for the selling price of this piece either but we’d guess it’s going to be very, very high.  We are also unsure if this watch was being worn by Mr. Wallace when he was killed back in 1997.  No matter how you slice it though, this is a very rare and very unique watch that will hold a lot of value for anyone interested.”
