Ladies and Gentlemen, Your NYTimes!

“If you’re eating Chick-fil-A, you’re eating anti-gay,”

The Simpsons (Classic)

From "Three Men and a Comic Book":
The show opens with one of its signature set pieces, in this case a comic book convention where an amusingly clueless Diamond Joe Quimby tries to curry the favor of the assembled Poindexters by saying he’s full of a warm glow, not unlike their hero Radiation Man, only to be roundly sassed for his unforgivable error.

Fuck Yeah Late Night Eats: 416 Snack Bar

Introducing 416 Snack Bar, Queen West's newest late night eats (181 Bathurst St., a few steps north of Queen St.).
"For $4, customers get several bites’ worth of a pork belly bun, the meat of which is cured for a week, submerged in duck fat for three or four hours, then deep-fried until crisp. It comes on a steamed bun, made in-house, with hoisin sauce, pickled celery, pickled ginger and watercress as garnishes. The Napolitano pizza pocket ($4) offers vegetarians a miniature panzerotto filled with mozzarella, basil and San Marzano DOP tomato sauce. Other petite highlights include a grilled hot dog ($3) and a Jamaican beef patty filled with braised short rib ($3), both also made from scratch."

Wayfarer Books

Wayfarer is a used bookstore in downtown Kingston, Ontario. Wayfarer is a neat little place that still embodies the small-town feel that Kingston is gradually losing. Walter, the proprietor, is a truly unique man. He knows an insane amount about every book in the store, and most books are in fact inscribed by him with some interesting information. Kingston used to have a ton of used bookstores, but Walter will quickly tell you that the internet has wrought havoc on the industry.

Today I bought a copy of "True Grit" by Charles Portis, and "Gods, Graves and Scholars: The Story of Archaeology" by C.W. Ceram. Total cost: $10.00. The below video really captures the charm of the place.

The below video illustrates a bit of Wayfarer's charm:

Yes Please.

"The Toronto Backyard Axe Throwing League, now 60-members strong, has blossomed over the last four years. What started in Little Italy as an informal, inebriated backyard activity among friends is now a (surprisingly legal) spectator sport, with rules, playoffs, diehard fans and even an oath. Members will kick off the winter season on February 7 at their new indoor facility. Founder Matt Wilson tells EYE WEEKLY about the birth of the league."

19th c. Slutlist!

From the New York Times:

“The Gentleman’s Directory” provides this generation with a glimpse of the simultaneously libertine and puritanical city that came before it. Prostitution was illegal, but brothels were rampant in the decades after the Civil War, operating under the noses of police and census takers. And proprietors were not shy about using newfangled marketing techniques to stand out and gain a share of the market.

Check it out.

Black Lips and Vivian Girls Touring Together

...two bands I really love. From pitchfork:

"Next month, garage-punk rabble-rousers Black Lips and bash-pop sirens Vivian Girls will both play the Bruise Cruise, a nautical fuzz-rock festival that'll take its partiers from Miami to the Bahamas and back again. And when that voyage ends, the two bands will keep it moving, heading out on a North American tour together in April. We've got tour dates for both bands listed below.
As previously reported, Black Lips have been working on their new album with super-producer Mark Ronson; Lips frontman Jared Swilley told us a bit about the collaboration here. Ronson recently posted a Facebook video of the dudes in the band playing around with gigantic slabs of raw meat, the sound of which they are apparently about to record for a song that is actually about raw meat. Watch the video here, and see if you can guess the punchline before it loads.
